Experimental constraints on Li isotope fractionation during the interaction between kaolinite and seawater

چکیده

In this study, to better understand the factors controlling concentration and isotope composition of lithium (Li) in ocean, we investigated behaviour Li during interaction kaolinite with artificial seawater. Dissolution Li-free seawater at acidic conditions (exp. 1) results a strong preferential release light isotopes, ?7Liaq-kaol ? ?19‰, likely reflecting both breaking 6LiO bonds over 7LiO from isotopically lighter AlO6 octahedral sites. Sorption experiments on 2) revealed partition coefficient between fluid up 28, an isotopic fractionation ?24‰. Thermodynamic calculation indicates authigenic smectites formed dissolution pH 8.4 3). The formation phase strongly removed solution (with solid equal 89) led increase ca. 25‰ ?7Li. This can be described by Rayleigh model early stage experiment rapid clay precipitation, followed, longer reaction time, equilibrium much slower removal aqueous via co-precipitation adsorption. Both processes are consistent factor ??20‰. These have implications for interpreting continental marine waters. For instance, 6Li observed far-from-equilibrium could explain transient enrichments soil profiles. With regard evolution ?7Li geological time scales, our experimental suggest that detrital material discharged rivers ocean ensuing “reverse chemical weathering” potential impact signature through neoformation minerals.

Experimental calibration of oxygen isotope fractionation between quartz and zircon

We report the results of an experimental calibration of oxygen isotope fractionation between quartz and zircon. Data were collected from 700 to 1000 C, 10–20 kbar, and in some experiments the oxygen fugacity was buffered at the fayalite–magnetite–quartz equilibrium. Oxygen isotope fractionation shows no clear dependence on oxygen fugacity or pressure. Unexpectedly, some high-temperature data (9...

Hydrogen isotope fractionation during H

Hydrogen metabolism was studied in the anaerobic bacterium, Sporomusa sp. strain DMG 58, by measuring natural abundance levels of deuterium in H 2 , H 2 O, and individual fatty acids during acetogenic growth on H 2 / CO 2 . Four cultures were grown, each in medium with a distinct hydrogen-isotopic composition ( δ D-H 2 O). The δ D value of H 2 was quantified in the residual gas exiting the grow...

on translation of phatic communion and socio-cultural relationships between the characters of the novels

phatic communion is a cultural concept which differs across cultures. according to hofstede (2001), the u.s. tends to have individualistic culture; however, asian countries tend to have collectivistic cultures. these cultures view phatic communion differently. in individualistic cultures like u.s., phatic communion reflects speakers’ socio-cultural relationships in conversations. to see whether...
